The Polar Music Prize Board has decided to cancel this year’s Polar Music Prize ceremony. Prize winners for 2022 will be announced in February next year, and the prize ceremony will be held on May 24th, 2022.
With the COVID-19 virus still engendering a global health crisis, the Polar Music Prize Board has decided to cancel this year’s Polar Music Prize award ceremony, which was to take place on May 22. “The safety of everyone attending the Polar Music Prize ceremony is our top priority,” said Marie Ledin, Managing Director of the Prize. “Our 2020 Laureates, Diane Warren and Anna Netrebko, will be honored on various occasions throughout this year and we will announce details soon.”
The Laureates of the 2022 Polar Music Prize will be announced in February 2022, and the prize ceremony and subsequent banquet will take place on May 24 next year.
“When we postponed the 2020 ceremony to 2021 because of the pandemic, we thought the world would be a safer place by now. But with the health emergency continuing, we are complying with the authorities’ recommendations and have made the difficult decision to cancel this year’s ceremony. Our events require considerable forward planning. We’re already putting the finishing touches to our plans for next year’s announcement and prize ceremony. We look forward to a proper celebration next year,” says Marie Ledin, Polar Music Prize Managing Director.
