On August 27, Kaija Saariaho and Youssou N’Dour will receive the Polar Music Prize on stage at the Stockholm Concert Hall. The Prize Ceremony will be broadcast live on TV4 starting at 5:00 PM. A summary including interviews with the Laureates will be broadcast at 11 PM the same evening on TV4.

A number of activities take place in Stockholm the days before and after the Ceremony to celebrate this year’s Laureates. Here’s a list of all the events no music lover would want to miss.

POLAR MUSIC TALKS

Polar Music Talks has attracted much attention in recent years, taking advantage of the unique competences gathered in Stockholm in conjunction with the Polar Music Prize ceremony. The event build bridges between culture, medicine, technology, business, creativity and music of all types. Among this year’s participants are Polar Music Prize Laureates Kaija Saariaho and Youssou N’Dour together with John Paul Jones, member of Led Zeppelin and Polar Music Prize Laureate 2006. Other speakers include Seymour Stein, Bianca Jagger, Martin Ingvar, Hélène Benno. Per Schlingmann, Martin Lorenzon, Margot Wallström, Helena Bergström, Carl Falk, Adam Tensta and Sharon Vaughn. BALTIC SEA FESTIVAL – CLOSING CONCERT WITH VALERY GERGIEV

This year’s closing concert at Baltic Sea festival is conducted by Polar Music Prize Laureate Valery Gergiev, one of the founders of the festival. Gergiev and his Mariinsky Theatre Orchestra will perform the colourful music for ballets Firebird, Petrusjka and Rite of Spring by Igor Stravinsky. Before the concert there will be a reception where also Eric Ericson, Polar Music Prize Laureate 1997, and his musical work will be honoured and highlighted. Eric Ericson passed away in February 2013.
